our story
Established in 2017, Ecológica Candle Co. was born through the marriage of two passions: beautiful fragranced homewares, and a growing need to foster sustainable living and conscious choices.
We feel that while being Earth-aware, luxury items and home comforts need not be compromised if done with care. We make conscious choices for the earth and it’s longevity (and by ‘we’ we encompass you our lovely customer if you’re reading this), but after all, we are living on this planet, and by gosh we need to embrace the precious time we have here!
The mountains are our home, and are a powerful ever-present force of nature, reminding us that the environment is so much bigger than we are.
All our candles are meticulously hand-crafted in small batches, with great thought and care, in the beautiful mountain town of Wānaka, New Zealand. We take inspiration from the Danish Hygge concept - creating fragranced goods that support the feeling of coziness and contentment in the home (nesting, if you will). Here in the Southern Alps of Wānaka NZ we experience crisp alpine winters, that lend themselves to candle light, cups of tea and comfy blankets.
waxing lyrical
We prioritise creating as little waste as possible. 100% post consumer recycled glass containers are used for our candle containers, as well as either recycled or home (and commercially) compostable packaging materials. The labels featured in our glass candle ranges are made from 100% recycled paper and fresh cellulose, sourced from a FSC® certified manufacturer.
Our candle wax is 100% natural soy wax. By choosing a natural candle wax product such as soy, you can avoid the release of harmful fumes into your home (such as those associated with use of paraffin wax candles). Our suppliers source their soy beans from Brazil where the beans used are sustainably harvested.
We do not use any additives such as stabilisers in our candle wax. All our candles contain soy wax with a blend of either phthalate-free fragrance oils or 100% essential oils (Botanicals range), nothing else. Every individual candle is uniquely hand crafted.
